SEO Metrics Are Dead! Long Live SEO Metrics!

Monarchies often mark the passing of their sovereign with the cry “The King is dead. Long live the King.” It is simultaneously an acknowledgement of a momentous event and a signal of continuity. So it should have been when Google pulled the plug on providing organic search keyword data. The finalization of what had already been a significant trend should have been heralded not as the end of SEO metrics but as an opportunity to transition to a more diversified approach to SEO analytics.

You’ve likely heard the clichés “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” or “you need to diversify your stock portfolio to avoid risk.” Well, we here at DBE have been practicing analytics diversification for quite a while and recently published a POV listing 7 SEO metrics that collectively present integrated perspective and actionable insights beyond what Google’s keyword data provided even when it was provided. Here’s a quick list of the metrics the POV delves into:

  1. Google Trends
  2. Organic Traffic Gains
  3. Organic Traffic Conversion and Site Behavior Gains
  4. Organic Traffic Gains to Optimized Landing Pages
  5. Google Webmaster Tools Search Queries
  6. Keyword Rankings
  7. Domain Authority

Of course there are other metrics that we continue to explore and evaluate as part of our analytics diversification portfolio. And we look forward to sharing more with you in future posts and POV’s as SEO continues its reign as part of an integrated digital marketing mix. Long Live SEO and Long Live SEO Metrics!
